The Almojuela’s Story
August, 2025

Our infertility journey began in 2019 when we learned we couldn’t conceive without assistance. In early 2020, with medication to regulate my cycle, we became pregnant, only to face the heartbreak of an ectopic pregnancy. The baby couldn’t be located, leading to months of injections, countless blood draws, and finally surgery at the end of the year. That surgery, performed by Dr. Appleby, left me with one less fallopian tube, but also with a deep sense of trust, knowing we were in caring hands. For the next few years, we went through countless fertility tests, medications to regulate my cycle, and two failed IUIs. In 2022, after a lot of reflection and emotional preparation, we decided to pursue IVF. Our retrieval gave us seven precious embryos. Our first transfer brought hope, then loss, as it ended in a chemical pregnancy. But our second transfer gave us our miracle, our rainbow baby, Elyanna Amavi. Through every step, Dr. Appleby and the Heartland Fertility team made us feel supported. They answered every question, eased every fear, and never rushed us. Half of our journey unfolded during the pandemic, yet we never felt alone. Now, with Elyanna in our arms, I advocate for infertility awareness through Heartland Fertility and The Gift of Love & Hope Inc., so others can feel the same hope we were given.
